7 Fall Travel Goals

As we cruise through summer and face the oncoming autumn, you may start to feel like life is too short and you need to make travel a priority this season. We couldn’t agree more. You may have been giving yourself excuses: I don’t have the money, I can’t take time off work, maybe when the kids are older. It’s time to cast aside the excuses and start making travel goals for this fall.

The hardest step is settling on a destination. Once you have that in place, it’s easy as pie to follow through on the rest. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t come up with a plan, from where you’ll park at the airport to which flight to choose to which hotel to book. Look to Valet Connections DTW parking for the first part: we make this simple. For your inspiration, check out these seven travel goals to add to your fall plans.

1.  Visit 2 New Countries

Make it a priority this fall to go somewhere you’ve never been. In fact, two places. It sounds more difficult than it actually is. How, you ask? Many Eastern Europe countries are situated close together, kind of like how states are here. This makes it easy to plan a trip to two or more countries in one trip. Whether you plan to travel via bus, train, or rental car, you’ll be checking items off your bucket list in no time.

Pro tip: To really make the two-country goal thing happen, consider planning a trip to Rome in Italy, and be sure to stop at The Vatican. Did you know Vatican City was actually a country? Southeast Asia, Western Africa, and Central America are other regions that house several small countries where you can visit in one fell swoop.

2.  Visit 1 New Continent

Adding a new continent to your fall travel goals may not be as easy, but it’s still doable. Try Kenya, Morocco, Tanzania, or South Africa when visiting Africa. Try France or Italy in Europe, or try South America’s Brazil or Argentina.

3.  Travel Solo

Traveling alone may sound lonely, but it’s actually a great way to see the world. You’re not at the mercy of anyone else, which means you can do what you want, when you want it. When you’re alone, it’s up to you where to eat, who to talk to, how long to stay, and which excursions you’d like to try. Go at your own pace without the need to slow down for anyone else or change your plans to align with the interests of fellow travelers. Solo travel is indeed healing for the soul, almost forcing you into getting out of your comfort zone, becoming self-reliant, and communicating with natives who don’t speak your language. Lifelong memories, new friends, and critical life skills are just a few of the things you’ll gain when you embrace solo travel.

4.  Explore Your Own Backyard

No one says you have to hop on a plane for a 10-hour trip to see the world. Take a quick plane ride, hop in the car, or take a train to explore your own backyard right here in the United States. There are plenty of hidden gems all around us, so rent an Airbnb in the mountains to do some leaf peeping, or book a luxurious hotel in your capital city. These mini trips that are close to home are good when you want to simplify your travel goals but still want to learn about your community and the world around it. You’ll save on costs and hassle, too, since you won’t have to update your passport or shell out hundreds or thousands for a plane ticket.

5.  Go Under-The-Radar

Not too hip on the trendy locations? Go off the beaten path and explore areas that aren’t overloaded with tourists. Some places to try include:

  • Trinidad & Tobago
  • Kosovo
  • Taiwan
  • Jeju Island
  • Guyana
  • Svalbard
  • Grenada

But if you’ve always wanted to visit typical touristy destinations such as Italy or the Maldives, stay away from the tourist traps and go with the local spots. In Italy, get some sun at the local beach town of Tropea, or head to the Maldives’ beautiful lush island of Maafushi. There are limitless options for traveling off the beaten path, so it’s time to get creative and keep your own agenda.

6.  Splurge on a Luxury Hotel

If your budget isn’t too tight, it’s high time you splurged on luxury accommodations to reward yourself for all your hard work throughout the first half of the year. Go big or go home! Try the President’s Suite at a five-star hotel, accumulating rewards points for another stay next year. Order decadent room service or try a new dinner in the hotel bar. Go to a Broadway show, take your time exploring the city, and enjoy the local sights.

7.  Prioritize Travel

Now that you know where you want to travel this fall, you have to prioritize your upcoming vacation and begin the planning process. In order for your trip to be successful, it’s wise to book airport parking, lodging, flights, activities, and excursions early.

Everyone makes excuses about why they cannot travel. But don’t fall into that trap. You will look back one day and kick yourself for not taking that trip and being more impulsive. The pros at Valet Connections will help you take the first step in seeing new destinations this fall, thanks to our plethora of valet parking options at DTW airport.
